Employers are currently under significant scrutiny for the environment that exists in their workplaces. Over the past years, the focus on #MeToo, systemic racism, gender inequality, generational differences, and negative behaviors in the workplace has posed enormous challenges for managers that, if ignored, can result in lack of engagement, attrition, and lawsuits.
This series is designed to help those in management positions learn how to address these challenges by developing a culture of respect and inclusion. Workplaces that can successfully drive an environment of respect will also be contributing to institutional sustainability and an engaged workforce committed to excellence.
Combining pre-recorded presentations with group problem-solving and live discussions with the instructor, this 4-module course will provide foundational knowledge that includes examples of fascinating research and practical strategies that any workplace can implement.
***Participants in this course will earn at least 8 PDHs and can expect to spend about 2 hours a week watching the pre-recorded presentation, participating in a problem-solving exercise with their assigned small group, and meeting on Thursdays at 1:00 PM Eastern for a live discussion with the instructor on the module's material. Module One: Creating a Culture of Engagement and Respect

Module Two: Minimizing the Impacts of Unconscious Bias

- How unconscious bias impacts organizational structures and policies, for example, the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and promotion processes
- Important strategies organizations and individuals can implement to reduce the impacts of unconscious bias
Module Three: Strengthening Multi-Generational Teams

- What the research tells us about generational patterns and why it matters
- How to discern myths from realities
- What practices workplaces can consider today for the newest entrants into the workplace, who may be significantly impacted by the interruptions in their education and social development as a result of Covid-19

Module Four: Bystander Intervention

- The integral relationship between silent bystanders and the perpetuation of negative conduct
- How to recognize the categories of roles that bystanders can play
- Safe and appropriate strategies that can empower bystanders to intervene
About the Presenter
Lauren Stiller Rikleen, president of the Rikleen Institute for Strategic Leadership, is a nationally recognized expert on developing a thriving, diverse and multi-generational workforce. Lauren consults, speaks, and provides training programs focusing on: creating a respectful and diverse workplace culture; minimizing individual and institutional unconscious bias; strengthening multi-generational relationships in the workplace; and women’s leadership and advancement.
Lauren is the author of 4 books, including The Shield of Silence: How Power Perpetuates a Culture of Harassment and Bullying in the Workplace and You Raised Us, Now Work With Us: Millennials, Career Success, and Building Strong Workplace Teams. She has written more than 180 articles and has been interviewed by major media outlets around the country for her insights into workplace challenges.
As a former law firm equity partner, Lauren managed a diverse environmental law practice, bringing her strategic and negotiating skills to her clients' enforcement and compliance problems. She is also an experienced mediator. For two decades, Lauren was selected by her peers to be listed in Best Lawyers in America. She has also been included in Chambers USA America’s Leading Business Lawyers and Massachusetts Super Lawyers.
Lauren brings an extraordinary background of leadership positions in professional and community organizations to her work at the Rikleen Institute, including leadership roles within her community, the American Bar Association, and service as a former president of the Boston Bar Association.
