Many organizations go through exercises like succession planning to identify and develop key executives who will be the future leaders of the company. Leaders often struggle to provide sufficient coaching and support to the candidates identified. They also many times are not effective in coaching, having difficult discussions or providing feedback to their peers at the senior leadership levels. The webinar will focus on helping leaders develop and apply skills utilized by external executive coaches to help them coach and mentor not only high potential executives but also apply those skills in coaching/providing feedback to peers at an executive level. This includes recognizing how to create awareness of the need for change, giving feedback in a positive manner, using questions effectively, process challenges in coaching, success criteria, types of issues that are usually addressed and skills required to be an effective coach/mentor. The session will be interactive and will provide opportunities to discuss specific challenges/situations.
Learning Objectives:
- Increase the ability of leaders to build off the strengths of their managers to address talent development challenges
- Develop coaching skills for leaders
- Increase the ability of leaders to improve their coaching dialogue
- Recognize the best way to balance the use of questions vs. giving suggestions in coaching/mentoring discussions with staff
